After a decade working as a magazine editor in New York, I learned that if you really want a reader to finish an article, make sure that it’s short and to the point.
That said, I’m using Tale of the Fishwife as a place to document my time living in Germany, and as my life goes, so will my writing—I will be long-winded and circuitous in ways that a good editor would never allow. Still, if I’m lucky, maybe I’ll entertain one or two people along the way.
On a personal note, I was born in Oklahoma to a lingerie salesman and Bed & Bath-shop owner. I was raised there and in New Hampshire, Connecticut, Philadelphia, Washington, DC, Annapolis, MD, London, Boston, New York, and now, Berlin. I speak English without an accent, but I write with one.
